To mark the end of Music Week 2019, Bishop Michael celebrated at the traditional Choral Eucharist on Sunday 12th May.
During the service the Bishop dedicated new white liturgical paraments, the first set acquired under a generous bequest from the late Ruth Smith.
Led by the choir under the direction of St. Andrew’s Director of Music, Earl Moffitt, with Music Week Facilitator Dr. Joe McKee as organist, the congregation heard the Gloria in Excelsis written by 2018 Music Week Facilitator, Martin White, for Christ Church, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong.
The appointed psalm for the day, Psalm 23, was sung to Anglican Chant by C. Hylton Stewart.
Following Bishop Michael’s inspiring sermon, the choir sang the anthem Listen, let your heart keep seeking, text and music by Aniceto Nazareth, arr. Malcolm Archer.
During communion the anthem Feed us now by Robin Mann was sung followed by the post-communion hymn Father we love you, Donna Atkins, arr. Norman Warren with descant by William Llewellyn.
Rev Michael made a presentation to Dr. McKee of a beautiful painting of Bellapais Abbey by local artist and singer Maxene Shailer.
Choir and congregation finished the service by singing the hymn We shall go out with the hope of resurrection by June Boyce-Tillman to the tune Isle of Inisfree (so appropriate for our Irish connection during this Music Week!).
Following the service, the congregation gathered in the Hall for the usual refreshments.
Sincere thanks go to Earl Moffit, Dr. Joe McKee, the members of the choir and guests from Kyrenia Chamber Choir who joined us, and all who helped in any way to make Music Week 2019 such a resounding success.
