Ban a Hymn Charity Auction

We all have our favourite hymns and worship songs.
But, if we’re honest, we have our ‘least-favourite’ too!

Now here’s your chance to censor that irritating tune and those dreary words for a whole 12 months in our fun (and fund-raising) AUCTION!

Here’s how it works:
* You can nominate up to 3 items from our current hymn book, but….
* For each one , you must pledge how much you will donate AS A MINIMUM, to have it ‘banned for a year’ from public use
* Write your choice(s) on the form provided, with the pledged sum(s)

There will then be a PUBLIC AUCTION at which
1. You can ‘make your case’ as to why you want this piece banned
2. Other people may then make a case to retain it
3. And then the bidding begins!
(a) You start the bidding (with your agreed amount) for a ban
(b) Anyone can bid ( a higher amount) to overturn to overturn your ban
(c) You can then bid again ( a higher amount still) for the ban you seek
(d) This continues until no higher amount is bid (either or against)
(e) The hymn is either banned or retained, with the highest bid winning

The amount raised will be the final bid (either for or against) – and all proceeds will go to Bishop Sean’s Advent Appeal for Al Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza.

The Auction will be launched at our St Andrew’s Day celebration on November 30th, where Bishop Sean will be our special guest.

Nordic Evening at St Andrew’s

What a delight to welcome back to Kyrenia Annelis and Terje Holmedal from the Norwegian Seamen’s Church and to meet Pastor Håkon Holmund from The Swedish Church in Ayia Napa on Friday.

We were entertained by Annelis and Terje with songs in Norwegian, Swedish and English and by Tommy’s Choir. Delicious cakes and coffee, accompanied by fellowship and conversation were followed by Pastor Håkon’s moving reflection.

The evening raised funds, through donations, for Bishop Sean’s Advent Appeal for Al Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza.

Tusen takk ! Tack så mycket ! Many thanks ! – to everyone involved in a lovely evening and especially to Tommy Rognmo for organising this event.

Remembrance amidst the storm.

‘ They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.’

These poignant and powerful words, read by Warden Malcolm Davies, rang out in St Andrew’s on Sunday to a background of raging thunder, lightning and torrential rain. An evocative backdrop to this solemn occasion.

Wreaths were laid by John Brown, David Birt, Warden Jacqueline McIntyre and visitor Liz Hounsell.

Sadly, the Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade at the old British Cemetery had to be cancelled due to the weather, but the RBL nevertheless held a 2 minute silence at the Cemetery.

Remembrance Sunday – 10th November

Our Sunday Service on November 10th will include the Act of Remembrance with 2 minutes’ silence. The point at which this takes place will be announced at the start of the service.

The Royal British Legion Remembrance Ceremony will take place at the Old British Cemetery at 12 noon.
